Before we begin, let me be clear: hypnosis is not a cookie cutter solution. Every individual is different, bringing unique experiences into the session. Because of those differences, no two sessions are alike.
The one consistent thing is how I begin. And that starts with the question:
What would you like to have happen?
In my previous post, The Magic Question, I presented this question this way: What do you want?
This question is important before any work begins because it orients my clients to the solution they want to solve. Without a clear direction, it is difficult if not impossible to adequately guide the subject to the desired outcomes.
That’s not saying hypnosis cannot be done content-free because it can. As a subject, you needn’t verbalize the answer to that question. As long as your unconscious mind is aware of the desired result, it will provide the path forward to help you get there.
