What I Would Say to Myself From Five Years Ago

Dear Jason (2021),

I know you think times are tough. You’re currently unemployed, but you’re doing some magnificent work. Don’t forget how you edit podcast videos. It might not be bringing in the income you desire, but right now it is your bread and butter. It’s helping you build skills you otherwise would not have. I mean, six months ago you knew nothing about jump cuts, color correction, or sound. While you’re still learning this stuff, one day it is going to pay off, especially when you start editing and publishing your own content.

And although it feels like you’re in survival mode, what you’re doing with Instacart and Door Dash is supplementing your income. And the best part is, even if you earn more than your unemployment benefits, you are still winning.

I know it is not easy starting over after the pandemic, but you are finding your way. The skills you developed while running PetCorps will prove beneficial when you start your hypnosis practice.

Yes, you heard that right. All the work you are doing to become a coach will lead you on a path of self-discovery that will introduce you to hypnosis. And when you discover this path, you will experience great spiritual enlightenment. But it comes at a cost you won’t be prepared for. The people you thought were in your corner will turn you away. You will feel alone, misunderstood, chastised, and even rejected. But don’t let that stop you.

Eventually, if you stick with it, you will end up helping some incredible people. The transformations you facilitate will amaze you. And when people’s lives change and they become unstuck from their circumstances, much like you once you learn this stuff and do the inner work on yourself, you will get a deep sense of satisfaction.

If there’s anything I can say to encourage you or strengthen you today, it’s this: stay faithful, apply your learnings, lead with curiosity, and create a safe space for your clients. You are on the verge of something that will change your life, your marriage, and your parenting.

You got this.

I believe in you,

Jason 2026
