What Does Trance Feel Like on the Inside?

People often ask me what hypnosis feels like. And rather than describe it to you, let me show you. As you read the text that follows, allow your imagination and curiosity to take you deeper and deeper into the trance of your own making.

Imagine slowing down your experience of the world so much that a calm energy begins to flow over you. Notice how that feeling permeates into your inner being bringing stillness to your body and alleviating any discomfort. You can find that it is a simple thing to become aware of the beating of your heart, steadily thumping along at the perfect rate for you. And notice how your finger tips become relaxed and light as a feather. That’s right.

Allow your body to sink into the surface of where you are presently…I don’t know if you’re sitting on the couch, lying in your bed, or sitting in the car…but wherever you are, feel how your body melts into the surface beneath you.

Become aware of your breathing…and the rise and fall of your chest. With each breath, notice how it flows in through your nose, down your trachea, into your lungs, all the way to the alveoli…and notice how the oxygen flows into your bloodstream, just as the lungs exhale, expelling carbon dioxide back out of your being. You may notice a light feeling in your chest. Your thoughts may become unburdened…that’s right, as you simply let go of any concerns…and just be in this moment.

Notice how good you feel inside your body and appreciate how your unconscious mind is always there in the background taking care of all these processes, without your needing to think about it. And notice how effortless it is to just be you.

And I wonder, what word or picture comes to mind for what this experience feels like?

As you sit there and consider it, not thinking about it, but letting it bubble up from beneath the surface…you can choose any word…any picture…and whatever you choose will be right for you…there is no wrong answer.

And when you have that image…word…post it in the comments. And when you have done that, you can come all the way back to now, awake and fully energized, ready for whatever comes next in your day.
