Unconventional Wisdom

Today, I was told that I was an answer to someone’s prayer.

First, it is Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers out there. As a husband, I am thankful to my wife for being a shoulder I can lean on whenever I need her. The work she does to maintain our home and chauffeur the kids to school and cooking, cleaning, and laundry does not go unnoticed. I don’t know if I could do it alone.

At church this morning, my youngest, Owen, was singing a solo as part of the Children’s Ministry ensemble. We arrived early so they could rehearse.

While they were doing sound check, I was in the lobby when an elder brother approached. We exchanged greetings, and he asked how I’m doing.

I told him I’m doing fantastic. Still working at Mouser Cabinetry. He asked if I had any clients yet. And while I have worked with dozens of clients over the past two years, my current calendar is open for new clients.

I told him about my excitement of attending HypnoThoughts Live, the largest hypnosis conference in the world. Two of the sessions I am most looking forward to are Cally Rempis’ session on quieting food noise and cravings because I think that will equip me with the knowledge and skills to work with people interested in weight management. The second session I am most looking forward to is Janet Rotella’s session on working with neurodivergent, autism, ADHD, and special needs because it will help me be a better father for Paxton.

When I told him about the weight management class, he confessed that he could use help in that area. He had been on weight loss medication, and he thinks there could be a mental component or block that is keeping him stuck. Conversationally, I asked questions, clean language questions, to elicit his map of the world and enter his frame.

We chatted for several minutes before he said he had been praying for a mentor. He said everything we discussed pressed the right buttons and he considered our conversation helpful, even if the wisdom came from “unconventional sources.” That’s a nice way of saying a place that some arms of Christianity isn’t open to. But I’ll take the compliment. And he believes our conversation was an answer to his prayer.

There was no formal induction. No trance work. I led with curiosity, and asked the right questions which led him toward the answers he was seeking.

That’s the kind of work that lights me up. If you’re looking for answers, let’s chat. You can book a discovery call here.
